Dec. 4: Joanne Kelley Utt to receive GFI Youth Leadership Award 2009
Galing Foundation, Inc. in partnership with The Philippine Honorary Consul General Raoul "Ray" Donato and the 2009 Youth Leadership Award Selection Committee comprised of Ms. Gloria Enriquez of UPS, Aries Arugay of UP Political Science Dept. and Lindsay Romasanta of Center for Pan Asian American Services will award Ms. Joanne Kelley Utt as the GFI Youth Leader of 2009 on Dec. 4 at "An Evening of Gratitude", the Annual Community Year End Dinner.
Nominated by Ms. Delma Bruder, Joanne Kelley Utt is a freshman and a straight A student at Starr's Mill High School. She graduated as Valedictorian last May 28, 2009from Saint Paul Lutheran School in Peachtree City. She served as Student Council in 2009 and as Editor of the school paper. She received Perfect Attendance Award for the school year 2008-2009 and Safety Patrol Award. In sports, Kelley is a member of the school's volleyball team, placed as 3rd in Track and Field (2007), received a Christian Award in Basketball (2005-2006) and as MVP in Basketball at Saint Paul School (2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009). In music, she is a member of St. Paul church band as a soloist and a guitar player.
Kelley is a certified CPR and her community involvement includes serving as a volunteer for the Heritage Nursing Home with EDGE church members, Soup Kitchen in Atlanta and CAMP J Zone in Peachtree City. Out of 176 entries, she received 1st place at the 2008 Patriot's Pen Essay Contest by Veterans of Foreign Wars on "Why America's Veterans Should Be Honored"
She has represented the Philippines during the "ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH" held by the 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) at the Battle Assembly Hall, Building 900, Fort Gilam, Forest Park, Georgia on May 3, 2009. She is a member of Fil-Am Association of Greater Atlanta and a volunteer at the annual Barrio Fiesta of the South festivity "SANTO NINO" at St Philip Catholic Church, Jonesboro.
She is a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Life Teen in Peachtree City. She is the daughter of Charles and Bernie Utt of Senioa, Georgia
