The Filipino Community in Atlanta couldn't be prouder to award a well deserving young member of the community as its first Youth Leadership honoree. HonConGen Donato affirms that our youth like Mr. Ragheb is "the young role model" with so much potential. Arjho Turner, Director of Galing Foundation, Inc. and Jane Rolen of Soc. Security Administration presented the US Savings Bond of $400 to Ragheb.
Turner emphasized not only the academic achievement of Ragheb but most importantly his significant contribution to the local community, proclaiming him as "Galing" (Great) person and great giver. She (Turner) also gave a brief update on GFI's continuous successful outreach in the Philippines, sending educational resources and basic essentials to impoverished Filipino indigent children.
Aside from recognizing Mr. Ragheb and his family during the annual Year End Dinner, HonConGen Donato acknowledged the presence and support of the various leaders of the community. Present were Dr. Joe Porquez, Dr. Mike Tan, Dr. Abe Magat of the Philippine American Center in GA, Eleanore Pascual and Pam Peterman of Fil-Am Association of Greater Atlanta, Anita Granada and Lilia Hagler of the Philippine Nurses of GA, Peggy Espinda and Ana Blackburn of Philippine American Chamber of Commerce, Esther Wilson of Philam Northwest and Varinee Sangmalee of the Asian Pacific American Council and Thai World Association.
Donato mentioned all the highlights of the Year 2007, from a successful visit of GMA Network crew featuring Filipino Americans in the South, Georgia Council International Visitors Gala, Ambassador Gaa and Former Pres. Ramos' visit, "New Members Orientation", Independence Day celebrations, Philippine Ambassador's Tour, Pasko at Fiesta and others.
He hopes that members will continue to support the various events and efforts that strengthens the community.
Members of the Filipino Community congratulates the board of PACG for the acquisition of Philippine American Center in Georgia.
Special thanks to Susan Namgeanfar and staff of Siam Square and Dr. Mike Tan.

An Invitation For Filipino Children to Participate in an Olympics Art Event in Beijing
Galing Foundation, Inc. (GFI), a non profit foundation for Filipino indigent children announces its search for 25 outstanding artwork by Filipino children living in the
Philippines and 10 outstanding artwork by Filipino children living Atlanta.
GFI is a volunteer coordinating partner with the International Paint Pals (IPP), a worldwide youth cultural organization that brings children together through the universal language of art. For the past eleven years IPP has held art exhibitions in many countries for the United Nations, The Olympic Games, and other global institutions. Over 100,000 young artists in 50 countries have participated in our programs on various themes of international interest and concern. We now have an exciting exhibition opportunity, and we would like to invite Filipino children in the Philippines and Atlanta to participate.
“We are looking forward to an even greater event in Beijing which will enable young artists from around the globe to present their creative messages in an exhibition designed to promote friendship, goodwill, understanding, and peace among all people everywhere
in today’s complex world”, according to Linden Longino Director, International Paint Pals.
The Beijing Youth Federation (BYF) was founded in 1949 and is the prime organization representing children and youth in Beijing. It is composed of 29 member organizations which serve over 4,000,000 kids in the city. One of BYF’s goals is extensive communication and cooperation with young people in all other countries.
International Paint Pals (IPP) was started in 1995 by The Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, USA. In 1996 IPP became a program of Youth Art Connection, a division of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta which serve over 30,000 children and youth. One of
IPP’s goals is to promote cultural understanding and friendship among kids worldwide.
BYF will obtain artwork from Chinese children and will arrange for the exhibition to be held in a prominent location in Beijing. The desired opening date will be 1 June 2008, which is National Children’s Day in China. However, it is possible that the
exhibition will open on an earlier date in 2008. Working through local volunteer organizers in each area, IPP will obtain artwork from young artists in as many other countries as possible and will send them to Beijing for the exhibition there. IPP will also
have an exhibition in its Youth Art Connection Gallery in Atlanta and possibly at the United Nations in New York City. The artwork will also be displayed on the websites of GFI, BYF and IPP/Youth Art Connection.
GFI’s goal will be to send the best 25 works to IPP in Atlanta, to arrive no later than 15 December 2008, or earlier if possible. Essays and poems written by the children will also be
welcomed along with their artwork.
Types of Artwork:
Paintings, drawings, collages, etc., using materials of the artist’s choice. Works should be on regular paper, not on thick paper or boards. Materials such as beans, leaves, or other
things that can break off during shipment should not be used.
Subjects of Artwork:
The artwork should reflect the ideals and spirit of the Olympics, such as peace and friendship among all nations; love of sports and the joys of friendly participation; any scenes that communicate messages of people of goodwill, of all ages, coming together
through the Olympics for peaceful sporting, cultural, educational, and other enjoyable activities.
Ages of Artists:
Ages 6 through 18 may participate.
Maximum Size of Works:
Works should be no larger than 40 x 50 centimeters (16 x 20 inches).

All artists will receive a Certificate of Participation from GFI, IPP and BYF.
News of the exhibitions and press releases will be available on

The Artwork Will Be Used for Exhibitions and Cannot Be Returned:
Because of the large number of expected participants, it will not be possible for us to return any of the artwork to you. We encourage you to take photographs or make copies for your further use of the images. We thank the children in advance for their generous contributions to a non-profit program for the Olympic Games. We hope they will feel that they are a part of this magnificent world celebration of peace and friendship and this will be a meaningful reward for them.
